CONTINUE TO RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

Selous / Nyerere NP to Ruaha National Park
Ruaha Game Drive
At the heart of the park lies the Great Ruaha River
The Great Ruaha River, along with other rivers such as Mwagusi, Jongomero, and Mzombe, serves as the lifeline of the park. During the dry season, these rivers are the main source of water for wildlife. A few natural springs also serve the same purpose. In the peak of the dry season, elephants extract water from dry sand rivers using their front feet and trunks. The remaining water pools along the Great Ruaha River are crucial habitats for hippopotamuses, fish, and crocodiles.
Joining the Great Ruaha are hundreds of sand rivers, which act as natural game corridors when dry and crystal-clear streams when wet. Waterbuck, impala, and the world's southernmost Grant's gazelle risk their lives for a drink of water - the banks of the Ruaha serve as a permanent hunting ground for lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas. Ruaha's elephant population has significantly recovered from ivory poaching in the 1980s and remains the largest in East Africa. Ruaha represents a transition zone where eastern and southern species of flora and fauna overlap.
Rich in flora and fauna, the park is home to species like the Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) that cannot be found in any other national park, showcasing its nearly untouched and unexplored ecosystem, providing visitors with a truly unique safari experience.
Visiting Ruaha National Park will offer you an incredibly rare experience - an up-close safari experience.
Game Drives In Ruaha National Park
The key to an outstanding game drive is experience, knowledge and a suitable vehicle. All game drives around the park are taken in open 4 wheel drive vehicles. These vehicles have been designed to ensure maximum visibility for all passengers. The game drives are led by a trained, experienced English speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of every safari you make. Balloon safaris are available in Ruaha during the dry season and can be prebooked or booked onsite.
